Within UAA, the Community Engagement and Leadership Education (CELE) unit provides students with opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to contribute to thriving communities. Building authentic community and campus partnerships drive our work. CELE programs are centered around the areas of community-engaged learning, democratic engagement, leadership education, pK-12 student success and place-based initiatives.

CELE has an outstanding opportunity for a Program Manager of K-12 Community Engaged Learning.

Reporting to the Director of Local P-12 Education Partnerships, the Program Manager of K-12 Community Engaged Learning will manage the set of community-engaged learning courses and experiences that connect UW students with local K-12 schools as tutors and mentors. The Program Manager will oversee course curriculum development, manage course administration and background check logistics, coordinate student recruitment and training efforts and provide advising and support for students’ community engaged learning placements in local schools. This position will collaborate with other CELE Center staff to facilitate opportunities that support K-12 student success while providing enriching community-engaged learning and leadership development experiences for UW students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specifically, the Program Manager of K-12 Community Engaged Learning will have the following responsibilities:

CELE K-12 Tutors and Mentors course management (60%)
• Oversee EDUC course curriculum and syllabi development that focus on education equity concepts and tutoring/mentoring strategies. Courses include EDUC 260 and EDUC 401.
• Facilitate course sessions and coordinate sessions with guest speakers.
• Grade and provide feedback on student assignments.
• Coordinate and facilitate orientation sessions for CELE Center K-12 Tutors and Mentors.
• Manage course administration and logistics via the Canvas Learning Management System, EXPO database and UW Time Schedule. Serve as main contact with UW Time Schedule or departmental liaisons for CELE Center courses.
• Coordinate distribution of add and drop codes.
• Oversee administration and reporting of course evaluations and surveys for continuous program improvement.
• Contribute to and lead process improvements around internal management systems.
• Supervise one full-time AmeriCorps position and undergraduate/graduate student staff and interns.
• Foster strong campus partnerships to support student recruitment and program growth.

Student advising, communication, recruitment and support (30%)
• Manage CELE K-12 Tutors and Mentors recruitment and training efforts, including opportunities for alternate tutoring/mentoring hours.
• Advise, recruit and support undergraduate students exploring EDUC courses offered through the CELE Center via email inquiries, one-on-one drop-ins, office hours and information sessions.
• In collaboration with the Community Engaged Curses team, ensure coordination of K-12 school-based placements for EDUC courses.
• In collaboration with UW’s Office of the Youth Protection Coordinator, ensure that all appropriate background check requirements are met and students are entered into the Youth Program Registration System.

Contribution to CELE Center, EXPD, UAA and UW (10%)
• Participate in and facilitate CELE staff meetings and working groups to support development and implementation of CELE Center initiatives.
• Support CELE Center wide events including Advising & Orientation and Dawg Daze events.
• Participate in EXPD and UAA staff meetings.
• Participate in related University-wide efforts or committees as appropriate.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• BA degree in Education, Social Work or another related field.
• 3 years of experience in student services or related fields.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

• Strong organizational skills, creativity, demonstrated attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and deadlines.
• Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work independently and be flexible, while being part of a team.
• Creative problem solving skills, ability to balance a variety of time sensitive duties, flexibility, and attention to detail.
• Exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and a respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds.
• Understanding of educational inequities and the racial and socioeconomic disparities that exist in education.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in higher education academic student services, community engagement programs or K-12 youth educational work.
• Experience supervising students.
• Familiarity working with databases and with UW systems such as Canvas.
• Experience developing undergraduate student curriculum and teaching/facilitation experience.
• Master’s Degree or 3+ additional years related experience.
