Corry man sentenced to hiding car, trying to claim insurance funds (2024)

A Corry man who hid his vehicle and tried to claim it was stolen will spend several months in the county jail as a result of a sentence handed down Friday morning by President Judge Maureen Skerda.

Jonathan M. Santry, 31, was sentenced on a count of theft by deception.

Assistant District Attorney Casey Strickland said that Santry reported his vehicle stolen to his insurance company after he hid the vehicle on a friend’s property.

She said that he had the “full intention” to receive the full claim amount.

“(It’s) clear Mr. Santry has a problem with telling the truth,” she said.

Santry pointed out that he does now work for AAA, the agency defrauded in this case.

Skerda said she found that “ironic” and said that “the court takes a dim view” of people who defraud insurance companies.

Santry was sentenced to five months to two years incarceration, submission of a DNA sample, $717.34 in restitution to AAA for investigation costs, 80 hours of community service, participation in the COG program and $1,550 in fines and fees.
