Baldur's Gate 3: The Best Sorlock Multiclass Build (2024)

The “Sorlock” is a powerful multi-class combination build in Baldur’s Gate 3 that utilizes key levels of two classes: Sorcerer and Warlock. Both archetypes are Charisma-based mages with access to some of the strongest spells in the game. The explosive power of the Warlock combines with the magic-altering effects of the Sorcerer to create a build designed to adapt to nearly any situation.

It is possible to use this build on any pre-existing character or companion. However, when using fully custom characters in Baldur's Gate 3, there are many extra options that you have to consider. Some Backgrounds offer more skills or means of gaining Inspiration to reroll failed skill checks before you've even started your adventure with a "Sorlock" character.

How To Set Up A Sorcerer/Warlock Multiclass Build

Pick The Right Stats And Racial Origin

When making a "Sorlock," your initial first Level should be invested into the Warlock class. This will grant your character proficiency in Simple Weapons, Light Armor, and most importantly, Charisma and Wisdom Saving Throws. Unlike pure Sorcerer builds in Baldur's Gate 3, the ability to use some armor and weapons to protect yourself gives you more chances to survive in deadly encounters longer.

Since both classes use Charisma as their spell-casting stat, go for the following Ability Scores, adjusted after bonuses:

Most Racial Options are for the flavor of your character, but taking the Asmodeus Tiefling grants additional magic useful for the "Sorlock" multiclass build. You gain three extra spells: the Produce Flame Cantrip, Hellish Rebuke at Level 3, and Darkness once you reach Level 5. Each of these pieces of magic serves a different function, but they are great to have for free just because of your character's race.

The Guild Artisan is a great background for your "Sorlock" build since it grants bonuses to Insight and Persuasion skills for free. For your remaining skill proficiency, take Arcana and Investigation to help support the magical side of your character. With these scores, you'll be able to approach various non-combat scenarios as you explore the multiple Acts of Baldur's Gate 3's story.

Choose The Right Patron And Spells

Once you gain your first Warlock Level, you'll want to select The Fiend as your Patron subclass. This allows you to gain temporary Hit Points for every enemy you defeat using the Dark One's Blessing feature. For your starting Cantrip spells in Baldur's Gate 3, select Eldritch Blast and Friends . For additional 1st Level spells, go with Armour of Agathys and Protection from Evil and Good .

Simply picking the Fiend also gives you access to Burning Hands and Command as spells added to your character right away at Level 1. As you advance Warlock Levels, your Patron will gift you with additional magic, but keep in mind that you don't want to invest more than six Levels in Warlock. Doing so would rob you of the advantages that come with the Sorcerer's traits within the "Sorlock" multiclass path.

At a minimum, you want to reach Warlock Level 4 and take Pact of the Blade and an Ability Score Improvement to further increase your character's Charisma. The Pact lets you use your Charisma score instead of Strength or Dexterity to make physical attacks, which gives you more melee options. However, you don't want to take four Levels of Warlock without some investment in the Sorcerer class.

Choose A Path While Keeping Magic From Both Classes

This multi-class build works by combining two key mechanics: the Warlock’sEldritch Invocations and the Sorcerer's Metamagic. Certain Invocations turn the Warlock's Eldritch Blast from a simple Cantrip into a magical canon, while the Sorcerer’s Metamagic modifies spell properties. Sorcerers can sacrifice their spell slots for extra Sorcerer Points to use more Metamagic, which includes the Warlock's Pact Magic slots.

For class distribution, you want to rush to a Level Warlock 2 right away. This grants the choice of taking Agonizing Blast and Repelling Blast to amplify Eldritch Blast. From here, you'll want to officially add the Sorcerer class and take the Storm Sorcerer subclass the first chance you can. This deviation gives you tons of extra magic and gives you the ability to fly after casting a Level 1 or higher spell without provoking nearby enemies.

Take another Level of Sorcerer to have two Warlock Levels and two Sorcerer Levels after this. At Level 4, your character can have Twinned Spell and Extended Spell Metamagics to cast more magic during your turn and increase a spell's range respectfully. Combine Metamagic Properties With Powerful Spells

Regardless of distribution, even six levels of Sorcerer will grant many benefits during Baldur’s Gate 3’s main campaign. This includes taking the Heightened Spell Metamagic to make it difficult for enemies to resist your magic. The Storm subclass alone grants you access to many spells for free, including Call Lightning, Sleet Storm , Gust of Wind, Create or Destroy Water , and Thunderwave .

You'll want to use a minimum of six Levels of Storm Sorcerer to alter magic, using the Heart of the Storm feature to deal extra damage with Lightning or Thunder spells at least. These elemental types will be your go-to magic, as you can change them from single-target effects into massive AoEs. You can always use the Pact of the Blade to deal melee damage to targets, but this should only be done as a last resort. Your primary goal is to be a damage dealer and glass cannon using Eldritch Blast and Sorcerer spells during encounters.
